Actually, the gorilla whom they kept considering as male for four years, turned out to be female. She gave birth to a baby gorilla. This is the case of the Columbus Zoo in Ohio. The Instagram post read that "Today we have an adorable surprise to share with you all! Our gorilla family just got a little bigger. But there's also another incredible part. Our team has recently discovered that what they thought was a male gorilla is actually a female gorilla. According to news reports, the name of this gorilla is Sully. She has been living here with her mother since 2019.
According to the zoo's official blog, this situation occurs because it can be difficult to tell the sex of gorillas when they are young. "Until about 8 years of age, males and females are about the same size, and they do not have prominent sex organs," the blog states. The zoo explained, “As gorillas age, they become sexually dimorphic, meaning that males and females look very different.
