Israeli Supreme Court will not be able to change the government order: Thousands of people on the streets against the legal change, said - Netanyahu has now become Putin
Despite protests in Israel for 29 weeks, a major part of the Judicial Overhaul Bill was passed on Monday. Thousands of Israelis continued to demonstrate in the streets of Tel Aviv during the voting on the bill. He said that Benjamin Netanyahu has now become like Russian President Putin. They are pushing the country towards dictatorship.
The protesters have warned to intensify the protest against this bill today. The Medical Association has also announced a 24-hour strike. However, this will not affect emergency services.
Under the new legal change, now the Supreme Court in Israel will not be able to reject any decision of the government as wrong.
North Korea's flag was also waved during the demonstration
People protesting against the legal change raised slogans – democracy or rebellion. He said that dictatorship will not work in Israel. During this, many journalists were also attacked. Protesters blocked the main Beguin Highway. Some protesters were also seen carrying the flag of North Korea to oppose Netanyahu's dictatorship. Police used water canon.
Opposition boycotted voting on the bill
During the voting on the bill on Monday, all 56 members of the opposition boycotted it. The bill then passed by a 64-0 vote. Israel's National Protest Movement blamed Netanyahu for the rift in the country's unity, the collapse of the army and the economy.
National Protest said that there is no point in talking to such a leader who has made himself like Russian President Putin and has decided to push the country towards dictatorship. We will fight Netanyahu to the end so that Israel remains a liberal democracy.
Netanyahu said – We are ready to discuss the bill
Prime Minister Netanyahu said – despite differences, the country has to stay together. The bill is very important to create a balance between different government departments and to run it. We are still ready for talks on the bill. We had tried earlier also, but the opposition leaders did not allow it to happen.
Israel is a strong democratic country and no one can change this fact. We will always stand together. The country will never become weak in front of the enemies due to mutual differences.
Opposition said – the saddest day in the history of the country
- Opposition Leader in Parliament Yair Lapid said – July 24, 2023 will be remembered as a sad day in Israel's parliamentary history. The government misused its power. We will challenge this bill and process in the High Court very soon.
- Lapid further said – The government and its alliance can decide which way to take the country, but they do not have the right to decide what and how the character of the country will be. Tampering with the matters of justice cannot be tolerated. Some people of our reserve force are talking about leaving the army. I would tell them that protest can be right in its place, keep doing it, but don't leave the opportunity you have got to serve the country by being in the army.
- Talking to the media, Lapid said – Netanyahu is a very weak prime minister. At present, I do not see any post like Prime Minister in Israel. The Prime Minister has become a puppet in the hands of fundamentalists. This will increase hatred in the country.
A part of the Judicial Overhaul Bill passed, know what is the complete proposal
In January, the Israeli government issued a resolution regarding the Supreme Court. If it is passed, the Israeli Parliament will get the right to reverse the decisions of the Supreme Court. It has been named the 'override' bill.
Now, if this bill is passed, whoever has the majority in the Parliament will be able to overturn the decision of the Supreme Court. People believe that this will weaken the country's democracy and the Supreme Court.
The new bill allows elected governments to interfere in the appointment of judges. Which will reduce the power of Judiciary to take correct and fair decisions.
With the implementation of Netanyahu's new bill, the power of the Supreme Court will be limited even in the matter of repealing any law.
This bill has largely divided Israel into two parts. Reservists, considered the backbone of the Israeli army, have said they may refuse to serve in the army.
